What is a Condenser?

In systems involving heat transfer, a condenser is a device or unit used to condense a gaseous substance into a liquid state through cooling. In so doing, the latent heat is released by the substance and transferred to the surrounding environment. Condensers are used for efficient heat rejection in many industrial systems. Condensers can be made according to numerous designs, and come in many sizes ranging from rather small (hand-held) to very large (industrial-scale units used in plant processes). How does a condenser work?

Air-cooled condenser: Condensers of this type use air as the external fluid to reject the heat from the system. Air-cooled condensers usually have copper coils where refrigerant flows in. What is a water cooled condenser?

Water cooled – Although a little pricier to install, these condensers are the more efficient type. Commonly used for swimming pools and condensers piped for city water flow, these condensers require regular service and maintenance. They also require a cooling tower to conserve water. To prevent corrosion and the forming of algae, water cooled condensers require a constant supply of makeup water along with water treatment.

Depending on the application you can choose from tube in tube, shell and coil or shell and tube condensers. All are essentially made to produce the same outcome, but each in a different way. The six water cooled vacuum condensers are destined for power plants in Belgium, England, the Netherlands, Sweden, Russia and Germany. The water cooled vacuum condensation plants are shell and tube type heat exchangers.

Ball Valve

A ball valve is a form of quarter-turn valve which uses a hollow, perforated and pivoting ball to control flow through it. It is open when the ball's hole is in line with the flow and closed when it is pivoted 90-degrees by the valve handle.The handle lies flat in alignment with the flow when open, and is perpendicular to it when closed, making for easy visual confirmation of the valve's status. The shut position 1/4 turn could be in either CW or CCW direction.

A globe valve is used to control and throttle the flow while with a ball valve you can’t control the flow and the only thing you can do with the flow is to close it. With a globe valve you are able to regulate the flow whereas the ball valves are well-performed for the closing the flow without any pressure drops.

If you need to keep the flow closed for a long period of time, use a ball valve. A ball valve works more efficiently in high-pressure systems like fire hoses.

 

 

Globe Valve

A globe valve, different from ball valve, is a type of valve used for regulating flow in a pipeline, consisting of a movable plug or disc element and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body. High-head-loss valves, such as globe valves, are commonly used for control purposes. Significant losses occur with these types of valves, however, even when they are fully open. Yoke

What is Flow control valve?

You must have seen the flow control valves at home by now and you are somewhat familiar with it. Its main task is to control the flow of fluid. In this article, we will fully introduce the flow control valves. In fact, you will get acquainted with Flow control valve types and functions. Stay with us.

A flow control valve regulates the flow or pressure of a fluid. Control valves normally respond to signals generated by independent devices such as flow meters or temperature gauges.

Control valves are normally fitted with actuators and positioners. Pneumatically-actuated globe valves and diaphragm valves are widely used for control purposes in many industries, although quarter-turn types such as (modified) ball and butterfly valves are also used.

 

 

Typically, for a closed pressure control loop, the pressure in an enclosed volume is controlled. The pressure within the closed volume is measured and used as feedback for the closed control loop. Then the controller sets the position of the flow control valve to change the mass flow into the volume. In this case, the mass flow out of the enclosed volume can be seen as a process disturbance. Even if not measurable, it is important that the system also controls the mass flow out of the enclosed volume. This information can be used directly by the feedforward controller to improve the transient behavior without additional measurements. With this type of feedforward control, the mass flow into the enclosed volume is compensated by the outgoing mass flow, even before the measured pressure changes.

 

 

Control valves can also work with hydraulic actuators (also known as hydraulic pilots). These types of valves are also known as automatic control valves. The hydraulic actuators respond to changes of pressure or flow and will open/close the valve. Automatic control valves do not require an external power source, meaning that the fluid pressure is enough to open and close them. Read more here
